Development Check

In Jaunary I posted about what Finwe may accomplish this month in terms of development. I thought I would revisit that to see what he can do now since he is nearly five months. The ones in italics were things he could do previously.

At the end of the fourth month, your baby . . .

should be able to:
  • on stomach, lift head up 90 degrees Yes he can
  • laugh out loud Yes, Yes, Yes
  • follow an object in an arc about 6 inches avoe the face for 180 degrees Yes sir

will probably be able to:

  • hold head steady when upright Still can do this
  • on stomach, raise chest, supported by arms I have to motivate him by rattling a toy above his head, but he can do it
  • roll over (one way) Well, he's stopped doing any rolling.
  • grasp a rattle held to backs or tips of fingers He loves grabbing toys. Just loves it.
  • pay attention to a raisin or other very small object Yep.

may possibly be able to:

  • keep head level with body when pulled to sitting He can do this really well.
  • turn in the direction of a voice, particulary mommy's Yes
  • say ah-goo or similar vowel-consonant combinations Yes
  • razz This is not something he does, but he likes sticking his tongue out.

may even be able to:

  • bear some weight on legs when held upright Try getting him to sit once he's up there
  • sit without support Oh my gosh, yes. Totally amazing!
  • object is you try to take away a toy No
  • turn in the direction of a voice Yes, he does this to anyone's voice

I can't wait to have a similar post for our baby. Our post will be so meaningful because the baby will be developmentally delayed in some aspects. We should see changes rapidly making this post more of a regular thing than every 4 or 5 months. It's so exciting!
