It is amazing how much sleep has to do with the first years of a child's life.
Finwe does not currently know how to get himself to sleep reliably. He needs me to nurse him to a sleepy state and then he can fall asleep. I did this with Larien who managed to run the course perfectly, and by five months of age could be put in her crib to get herself to sleep. She didn't cry at all. I loved that--the no crying part.
Two nights now, Finwe has nursed to get ready for bed followed by a giggling, laughing, "I love you, Mommy" interlude. The giggling, lovey part is fine, but he has also managed to get himself out of the sleepy phase. So, I just gave him a kiss and left. He whined for a bit (okay, maybe a more than a bit, I did manage to scarf down dinner while he was whining) and fell asleep.
So, that was good and bad. The problem for my babies is that when they do any amount of crying before they fall asleep, they wake up 30-45 minutes later. That's the bad. I'm still working on the method used in The No-Cry Sleep Solution, but Finwe is proving to be more difficult about this than Larien.
Excuse me, I must go. Time to get the baby boy asleep.
