What to Expect

Years ago--probably six--Phill and I received a signed copy of What to Expect The First Year, a book of milestones and advice for parents of infants. With Inwe I checked it all the time. With Larien, I looked at when I was fuzzy on the details of development. With Finwe it has been on the shelf until today when I thought it would make good blog material to give you a good idea of Finwe's development physically.

So, from this reference source for the second month of life.

By the end of the third month a baby should be able to:
  • on stomach, life head up 45 degrees--Yes he can.
  • follow an object in an arch about 6 inches above the face past the midline--Yes

And some babies will probably be able to

  • laugh out loud--well, maybe, but I can't be too sure about it
  • on stomach, life head up 90 degrees--not quite, but he's at 60 degrees
  • squeal in delight-no
  • bring both hands together-I've seen him do it a few times
  • smile spontaneously--Oh, yeah, this boy can smile
  • follow an object in an arc about 6 inches above the face for 180 degrees-I can't say I've tested this

I'll leave some of the other categories out for now--like what he "may possibly be able to do"and the "may even be able to do". I do feel like sharing that he says lots of ah-goos and ooos. Love that. Love it.

oh should I get that book? I'm woefully ignorant on what Isabelle should be able to do.
