Breastfed babies have to be seen by the pediatricians one week and then two weeks after birth to ensure that the weight lost after birth has been regained at the end of those two weeks. Today was Finwe's one week check up (although it is just five days after his birth).
He's doing quite well. His weight at birth was 4.45 kg. Today it was 4.30 kg, which means he is nearly back to birth weight already. That is just wonderful. He really is a great nurser, eating every two hours on average.
He went four hours last night between feedings, so that meant I got a pretty good stretch of sleep.
And, today I had my first challenge--all three kids at once by myself. Did I do okay? Yes, I did. They are all napping after I got the three of them fed lunch, and I ate at the same time. Beginner's luck, I'm sure, but still encouraging. Of course it helped that Inwe decided to make her own lunch (a taco, grapes, and carrots). Finwe cooperated by napping while I had my lunch before demanding his own.
Why was I on my own with all this company in the house? Well, Phill had a meeting that was mandatory, and the four older generation chose this day to visit Monticello as we took Finwe to the doctor's appointment. Perhaps bad planning on our part, but I feel accomplished. I will probably fall out flat asleep when the older ones get back, but I'm doing well. Yes I am. Yes I am.
