Sleep, No Sleep

Ah, the sleep deprivation of a mom. Finwe has decided that the first three hours of his nightly sleep are good in his crib. At midnight, he rustles a bit. I soothe him, put him back in the crib; he rustles some more. I end up putting him in bed with me. The past two nights he has not just made light waking noises when he wants milk, he cries out. But, it isn't just food that he wants. He wants to nuzzle. I have become a human pacifier. I will need to take steps to end this as I am now averaging 5 hours a night, interrupted. Then I take care of two kids for 4 hours and three kids for the next 6 hours until help arrives. As there are no governing bodies for mothers, I must suffer. However, here is an occupation that requires sleep.

To guard against pilot fatigue, which could result in unsafe flying conditions, the FAA requires airlines to allow pilots at least 8 hours of uninterrupted rest in the 24 hours before finishing their flight duty.

You can't fly a plane without 8 hours of sleep, but you can raise three kids.

I don't miss the sleep deprivation but I do miss the middle of the night nursing sessions. After the first child, that was a sweet and quiet time for me and the baby. Trying to nurse during the day with three other children needing me, well, I'm glad that's over!

I am in awe of you. I can't imagine 3 kids, even though that's how many I want. It's challenging enough with just Isabelle.
