Fingernails and Earlobes

Did you ever look at your baby to figure out which parent he or she is going to resemble? We've done that with all of our babies and haven't really ever come up with the proper parent. Afterall, how can you look at that cherubic face and determine future head shape? I can't, and I don't even try.

At least you can look at other bits and pieces to say--"That came from me!" I thought I would share some of these with you regarding Finwe.

He has my fingernail from my index finger. I love the nails on my index fingers. I have to do absolutely nothing for these to look lovely. This is not true of my other nails. Too bad that boys aren't supposed to have long nails. His will be pretty.

He has my attached earlobes. This is a recessive trait. (Oh, genetics, sorry. See, I have blonde hair, that means that I have two copies of the blonde gene. I got one copy of that blonde gene from my mom and one from my dad. I also have attached earlobes, meaning that I have two copies of the attached earlobe gene.) Phill has detached earlobes. Since Finwe (and Larien) have attached earlobes this means that Phill has to have one copy of detached and one copy of attached.

Think of it this way:

• Detached is E.
• Attached is e.
• When an E is around that is what you see. The e is hidden.

Phill is Ee. I am ee. Phill cannot be EE because if he were all the kids would have detached earlobes. Phill gave half his genome to the kids and I gave the other half. Finwe got Phill's e and one of my e's. So he is ee. Larien is also ee. Inwe is Ee.

What kind of earlobes do you have? (Mav, you have to answer this please. And, Dad you as well.)
