Sleeping with Finwe is wonderful. He snuggles as close to me as he can get at times, yet equally as often he pushes away to sleep in his own separate space. He rarely falls asleep while nursing, preferring to let go before settling in. When he settles in, he tilts his head back, stretches out his arms, and smacks his lips. It’s the same routine each time.
I’ve begun keeping his lovely blanket, knitted by Mango Salsa and financed by Trixie, in between us for two reasons. The first is so that the blanket has my scent as babies are very sensitive to the smell of their mom. The second reason is so Finwe enjoys the blanket making it easier to transition him to his own bed.
Perhaps the most interesting time of the morning is between 4-5am. Finwe stirs a bit, grunting, snorting, making other baby sounds. He’s not hungry; he’s not ready to wake up; he just wants his body position changed. I discovered this by trial and error. His favorite position is propped up on the pillow, our heads touching, and my hand on his belly. This morning we slept that way for two hours.
